Why Post-Season Maintenance Matters

When the last snow melts, it's tempting to park the equipment and forget about it. But salt residue left on metal surfaces over summer causes accelerated corrosion.

Investing a few hours in post-season maintenance saves thousands in premature replacements.

Deep Cleaning Protocol

The first and most important step is a thorough cleaning.

  • Pressure wash all plow blades, frames, and mounting hardware
  • Flush spreader hoppers, augers, and distribution systems
  • Clean undercarriage of trucks and loaders thoroughly
  • Inspect and clean all electrical connectors and harnesses
  • Wash and inspect hydraulic hoses and fittings
  • Clean cab interiors including floor mats and controls

Inspection and Repair

After cleaning, perform a detailed inspection of every component.

Create a repair list prioritized by severity.

Rust Prevention and Protection

Apply rust inhibitor or protective coating to all exposed metal surfaces.

For hydraulic cylinders, retract rams fully and apply a thin coat of hydraulic oil to exposed chrome surfaces.

Proper Storage

Store equipment in a covered, dry location whenever possible. Disconnect batteries and store them on a maintenance charger.
